How do I stop clear spray shellac from clouding up
l have been cleaning up some old furniture. The process l use is pretty
simple. l first wipe the old furniture down with a cleaner that l buy at
the dollar store that does a great job removing grease and grime. l then l
will spray it with an aerosol clear shellac. Here is the problem. The
shellac sometimes turns to a milky finish. If l let it sit for an hour or
two it sometimes disappears.. ..but sometimes not. Any idea what’s going
on? l had the paint store tint me up some colored shellac that if spray through and aerosol sprayer and that does not cloud up. I’m thinking l should buy a can of clear shellac and run it through the store bought sprayer and see if does the same thing. Any ideas??
Sometimes I have had this happen when I put it on too thick or
if I get in a hurry & add a second coat before the first one is dry. You
also need to make sure the cleaner you used is completely off the piece &
that the piece is dry before you start. I just hate having to be patient,
but it seems to work much better that way.
if its to humid out the shellac will cloud up because of the
moisture in the air
Might the shellac be dissolving the old finish, putting it in
suspension within the clear shellac shell?
